landslide susceptibility mapping for the urmia lake basin, iran: a multi- criteria evaluation approach using gis
Authors
abstract
although typically small in terms of their spatial footprint, landslide hazards are relativelyfrequent in northern iran. we assess landslide susceptibility for the nearly 20.000 km2 large study area of the urmia lake basin which is dominated by agricultural land use but includes the major settlements areas of the east azerbaijan province, iran. landslide factors are established in form of gis dataset layers includingtopography, geology, climatology and land use. after pre-processing all data layers are standardized based on a fuzzy logic model. an analytical hierarchical process (ahp) delivers the weights for the gis-analysis.datasets are combined by gis spatial analysis techniques and a landslide susceptibility map of the study area is created. an existing inventory of known landslides within the case study area was compared with theresulting susceptibility map. we found that high susceptible zones cover about 4.47% (944 km2) of the totalarea whereby geological outcrops of sedimentary and volcanic formations such as volcanic ash contribute most to the landslide susceptibility. due to the dynamic growth of settlements especially in the vicinity of the city of tabriz landslide hazards may cause even more damage in the future.the resulting information of thisresearch is useful for a) a better understanding of existing landslides and their origins in north-western iran, b) supporting emergency decisions and c) prioritization of efforts for the reduction and mitigation of future landslide hazards.

full textGIS-multicriteria decision analysis for landslide susceptibility mapping: comparing three methods for the Urmia lake basin, Iran
The GIS-multicriteria decision analysis (GIS-MCDA) technique is increasingly used for landslide hazard mapping and zonation. It enables the integration of different data layers with different levels of uncertainty. In this study, three different GIS-MCDA methods were applied to landslide susceptibility mapping for the Urmia lake basin in northwest Iran. Nine landslide causal factors were used, ...

full textUncertainty Analysis of GIS-based Ordered Weighted Averaging Method for Landslide Susceptibility Mapping in Urmia Lake Basin, Iran
GIS-based Multicriteria Decision Analysis (GIS-MCDA) provides a rich collection of techniques and procedures for landslide susceptibility mapping. In this study landslide susceptibility was evaluated by applying different analytical GIS techniques based on Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) criteria. The OWA-MCDA is complemented by a Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) and a Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST)...
full textA GIS-based extended fuzzy multi-criteria evaluation for landslide susceptibility mapping
Landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) is making increasing use of GIS-based spatial analysis in combination with multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) methods. We have developed a new multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) method for LSM and applied it to the Izeh River basin in south-western Iran. Our method is based on fuzzy membership functions (FMFs) derived from GIS analysis. It makes use of n...
full textA GIS Based Landslide Susceptibility Mapping Using Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis Model at a Regional Scale
The paper aims to produce a landslide susceptibility map by means of multi-criteria decision analysis based on GIS for Qianyang County, Shaanxi Province, China. At first, a detailed landslide inventory map was prepared and fourteen landside conditioning factors were considered: slope aspect, slope angle, altitude, plan curvature, profile curvature, geomorphology, rainfall, STI, TWI, SPI, distan...
